The electronic accordion was invented and patented by Candido and Amedeo (Al) Iorio in 1958 under the trade name “ACCORGAN” (Accordion+organ = Accorgan).

The first model incorporated the electronic MINSHALL ORGAN  (Brattleboro, Vt) with the Iorio accordion models. Several years later it was licensed to Chicago Musical Instrument Corp. on a royalty basis  using their own trade name “Cordovox”.

The first contact assembly unit is pictured in Fig. A.  You will note it has 3 gold plated finger contacts…16’, 8’, 4’.  This system proved very effective.

A major breakthrough in the electronic accordion was the INTRODUCTION OF THE SELF-CONTAINED ORGAN UNIT.  Completely on 1 circuit board. (Fig B) AND INSTALLED DIRECTLY BEHIND THE ACCORDION KEYBOARD.  Reverse side of this circuit board is illustrated in Fig. C.  This self-contained organ circuit board was incorporated on our Iorio Model F Series in 1974.

The introduction of the  Iorio Electronic ACCORGANS has started with the Series A (1958) and is presently merchandising  the NEW KS SERIES.
